A collaborative implementation leads to immediate results

Learn how one health system partnered with Availity to ensure onboarding success

Challenge

When a large not-for-profit hospital and health care system learned that its longtime RCM clearinghouse vendor was requiring them to migrate to a new EDI platform, they decided it was time to evaluate other options. The Kentucky-based health system had more than 40 clinics and a migration of this size had the potential to be a significant disruptor.

The financial director who championed the change was keenly aware of the immense scope of work required, both by Availity and the client. Their team interviewed several Availity clients about their implementation experience, including the level of post-implementation support Availity could provide.

Solution

After a rigorous evaluation process, the client selected Availity Essentials Pro as their end-to-end revenue cycle solution for hospital and provider billing. They were impressed with Availity’s Epic expertise and Essential Pro’s >98% clean claim rate, but it was Availity’s commitment to client support and structured implementation that stood out to the team.

“Availity’s dedicated client managers and their client onboarding process made us feel comfortable that they knew what they were doing, especially with the enrollment process,” the director said. “We didn’t feel like we would have to manage anything on our own.”

Results

Onboarding started in August of 2021. Over the next 6 months, the teams worked together to design, gather requirements, test the solution, and manage the enrollment process.

Regular communication between the client and Availity was critical. Both scheduled and ad-hoc meetings kept the stakeholders informed, and the implementation teams regularly gathered and analyzed data to identify gaps and collaborate on solutions to keep the project on track.

The partnership paid off. The health system went live with Essentials Pro in February and immediately started experiencing reductions in both errors and denials:

Fewer Claim Errors

  • Hospital: .7% -> .3%
  • Professional: 1.6% -> .8%

Decline in Denials

  • Hospital: 1.8% -> 1.3%
  • Professional: 1.7% -> .9%

With the rush of implementation behind them, the client and Availity teams are now collaborating on ways to improve revenue cycle processes to further reduce denials and streamline operations.
