Josh has been a member of the Availity team for 15 years. His interest in computers and programming was sparked at a young age, leading to his pursuit of a degree in computer science and a career in technology. After joining the Availity team as a software engineer, Josh quickly caught up to speed and began learning about the healthcare market by reading documentation and code.
In his current role as Principal Architect, Josh enjoys empowering others to solve problems faced by Availity clients. This includes his co-workers as well as the company’s end users, ensuring that they can effectively integrate Availity solutions to make a difference. Working with smart people to solve hard problems propels him forward in his day-to-day work life, keeping him on his toes and fully engaged from the moment he logs in until he goes home for the day.
For Josh, collaboration is another key attribute of his job. He enjoys kicking off a new project with a novel idea, building on it, and adding other diverse insights from his coworkers to create something unique. The ability to draw from various strengths is something that he finds inspiring, driving him to continue to iterate to find the best solution. He’s motivated daily by the scale and complexity of the healthcare domain.
Josh also highlights that Availity has an amazing leadership team. While his job is busy and at times stressful, he has found that working collaboratively with the leaders around him helps to foster resolutions to nearly any problem. He prioritizes his work by importance, helping him to stay on-task to find solutions to roadblocks for customers.
Outside of the office, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, going to the beach, swimming, and hiking. He keeps current on the latest in computer science and software engineering by reading and learning about the latest open-source software. When Josh gets home from the office, his pet guinea pig keeps him company. His favorite book is The Lean Startup, and like many in tech, coffee is his favorite food!
Josh’s advice for having a successful career at Availity is to, “be calm, listen to the people around you, think about the problem at hand, and always spend your time doing the most important thing you can.”
