Associate Spotlight Justin Greer

6.16.2020 By Availity

Justin Greer is a product manager for Availity’s Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) solution, where he leads a team of product owners responsible for enhancing the application and troubleshooting problems. He joined Availity as part of the 2011 RealMed acquisition, which introduced RealMed’s provider-facing business into Availity’s payer-focused organization. While the merger represented a big change at first, Justin now appreciates the value of having both perspectives—the provider and the health plan—when developing products.

Finding the balance

“Because of our unique position in healthcare, I always feel challenged—in a positive way,” Justin says about Availity’s place at the intersection of payer-provider collaboration. He explains that a big part of his role is helping payers and providers balance their competing needs to develop solutions that work for everyone.

He cites the work Availity is currently doing with electronic medical attachments as an example of how this collaboration works. Building out a medical attachment solution is a complex process that requires dedicated participation from technical and business process representatives from health plans and provider organizations. Justin is part of the team that helps drive product requirements and has recruited providers to participate in pilot programs. They’re now seeing success from this work as one health plan is accepting electronic attachments and another is scheduled to start their pilot soon.

Following a diverse career path is preparation

During his 16-year career at Availity, Justin has worked in many different functional areas on the provider line of business, starting in applications support, transitioning to the call center, and then finally on to product management. He believes this diversity of experience has prepared him to lead a team of product owners for the RCM application.

“We are holding providers’ revenue in our hands,” he said. “One mistake can have a significant negative impact on their day or week, so getting that foundational knowledge and experience early on in my career helps inform my decisions now that I am a product manager.”

Just for fun

During his free time, Justin enjoys spending time with his wife and seven-year-old son. His hobbies include cooking, gardening, video games, and movies. He’s served as the Indianapolis office’s United Way campaign coordinator for the past four years, organizing events and fundraising opportunities for our United Way campaign each fall.
